Abstract
Reading is a very important part of education to produce graduates of the nation's children who are intelligent and have good character in the educational, community and family environment. Education is guided by the 1945 Constitution Article 31 (Amendment IV) Paragraph 1 which states that "every citizen has the right to receive teaching". The research was conducted with the aim that elementary school children who were not fluent in reading due to the impact of Covid which resulted in children studying at home or via online also have reading literacy skills. Literacy activities also help children recognize sounds, letters and can read syllables. The research method used is quantitative research using data collection tools in the form of instruments. This research was conducted in the even semester at the Yahim Sentani residential area, Jayapura. The research sample was children aged 6-8 years in the neighborhood around Yahim's housing estate who were not yet fluent in reading. The results of the study show that reading literacy can improve children's reading and writing abilities by using methods and visual aids in the form of flash cards with the highest result being 80% and the lowest being 65%.
