Abstract

The purpose of this study was to improve students' reading skills through appropriate reading materials for use by students in class III SD Inpres Aikima Wamena. This research is a quantitative study in which data were obtained through observation, interviews and questionnaires. The subjects of this study were students in class III SD with a total of 31 children. The research results obtained were (1) teaching materials used by students to improve reading can increase students' motivation and learning achievement, and (2) teaching materials used in the learning process are suitable for use in class III SD. Normality test results through descriptive analysis in class III at SD Inpres Aikima obtained a Mean 52.26, Std Deviation 17.265, a minimum value of 20 and a maximum of 80. Normality test using the Kolmogorof Smirnov technique in the SPSS 23 for window program. The significance level used is 5% or α = 0.05. The processing results of the normality test were a significant pretest of 0.200 and a posttest of 0.051 thus indicating that the value showed more than 0.005 so that the data was normally distributed.
