Abstract

The tutoring assistance program in reading, writing, and arithmetic (calistung) is one of the efforts to improve the basic academic abilities of school-age children. This community service program was conducted for Sunday School children of the Pisugi Congregation in Jayawijaya Regency with the aim of improving children’s literacy and numeracy skills as well as supporting better academic achievement at school. The study employed a field action research design based on community service using a qualitative descriptive approach supported by simple quantitative data. The subjects of this study were 15 Sunday School children from the Pisugi Congregation. Data collection techniques included observation, pretest, posttest, and documentation. The findings showed that the tutoring assistance program was effective in improving the reading, writing, and arithmetic abilities of the 15 Sunday School children in the Pisugi Congregation, Jayawijaya Regency. The program not only enhanced cognitive aspects but also affective aspects such as motivation, learning interest, and children’s self-confidence. Therefore, this activity is highly feasible to be continuously developed as a form of support for basic education among children in the Sunday School environment.
