Abstract

Students tend to perceive mathematics as a difficult and unenjoyable subject. Students' negative responses to the process of learning mathematics can be changed by implementing a fun and enjoyable learning process. In addition to students' responses becoming positive, it is also expected that students' learning achievements will improve. This research aimed to describe students' responses during the process of teaching and learning using the GASING method. Furthermore, this research is also conducted to determine the difference in students' learning achievements before and after using the GASING method in the concept of multiplication. This study was conducted at Koinonia Wamena Elementary School with a total of 215 students, and the research sample consisted of 38 students. Data collection in the research was obtained from observations and tests. Researchers conducted observations during the teaching and learning process to observe students' responses. Tests were conducted by researchers to assess students' learning achievements. In analyzing the data, researchers used non-parametric statistics (Mann-Whitney) through the SPSS program. There were several results that have been found in this study: 1) Students' responses during learning with the GASING method are: a) Happy and enthusiastic, b) Enthusiastic, c) Paying careful attention, d) Quick in solving problems, e) Feeling challenged to solve problems, f) Wanting to continuously try solving problems, g) Interested in answering questions. 2) No significant difference was found in students' learning achievement between using the GASING method and not using the GASING method in the concept of multiplication.
